The Nautical ABC project | A is for anchor

I've decided to set myself a personal drawing project - called The Nautical ABC project. 26 days | 26 letters all relating to everything nautical. The challenge is to incorporate the object the letter stands for in the letter shape. Here's the first one - A is for Anchor.

I aim to post regularly and you'll be able to check up on the progress here.

Do you have any personal drawing projects? Leave your answers in the comments below!

Make your own Handwriting font!

Something which I love to use in my work is handdrawn typography. I also especially like using my handwriting to make labels and product names - as you can see on the Tea & Biscuit badge pack below.

Normally I would write the word that I would like to have on a scrap of paper, scan it in, trace it and then convert it in illustrator.  However just recently I've discovered that I can now create an entire font with my handwriting really easily and cheaply and it works so well! Here is an example of the font I've created- just click on the image to be taken to the yourfonts site- amazingly it took me less than 15 minutes to create mine.

Love is in the air...

In between travelling and packing and sorting boxes for our move I've been working on some wedding invite designs for my brother-in-laws upcoming wedding. Starting with a pencil sketch and then inking in with my favourite Rotring pens it was then transferred to the computer to colour and tweak- I'm still waiting to hear thoughts on the colours but wanted to blog on this happy project! It's also started to give me ideas for valentines day...

Emmy's Illustration

It was my niece's 1st Birthday on Sunday and as usual I was leaving things a bit late to head for the shops, so I ended up deciding to do a wee illustration based around her age. It has been hand-drawn with pen and ink and then painted with liquid acrylic to make a bright piece of artwork that I hope she will admire in years to come!
